Does this thermometer work on food?

No

What do the three buttons on the thermometer mean? I have lost the instructions.

The Mode button is to switch between measuring temperature for body temperature of object. The Mem button is to show the last 10 readings. and the C/F button is to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
