Quick Charge 3.0 is a technology developed by Qualcomm after years of researching how to safely speed up the mobile device charging process. Prior to this technology’s release, charging mobile devices was constrained by slow, less-efficient charging mechanisms. Quick Charge 3.0 was designed to efficiently allow for shorter charging times of larger batteries.
What is Quick Charge?
Quick Charge is mobile device charging technology that eliminates power waste while greatly increasing the rate at which power is transferred to a mobile device. Quick Charge 3.0 is the latest generation to become available to the public. Qualcomm is continuing to work on future generations, but rest assured, they’ll be backwards-compatible, so you don’t have to worry about buying a Quick Charge 3.0 device that will soon be obsolete. In order to safely use Quick Charge, your device must be Quick Charge-compatible. When you use a Quick Charge-enabled charging device for electronics designed to charge with the technology, a controller chip within the device being charged keeps track of the temperature. Once it hits a certain point, charging will slow to allow the device’s temperature to lower. It also has inherent battery-saving features, ensuring you won’t need to pay for a costly battery replacement until it’s absolutely necessary.
Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0
Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 is designed to be able to charge the average smartphone’s battery to 50% in half an hour. Drawing 36 watts of power, it charges twice as fast as the original Quick Charge 1.0 ever could.
Benefits of Quick Charge 3.0
Thousands of hours of research and testing went into developing Quick Charge 3.0. This resulted in numerous benefits for customers who were looking to preserve their mobile devices’ batteries while still being able to charge them as quickly as possible at the same time. Here are a few factors in particular that Quick Charge 3.0 users love:
The Quick Charge 3.0 charger is 100% faster than the original Quick Charge 1.0 device, which was already double the speed of a conventional USB charger. In other words, when you use Quick Charge 3.0 chargers, your devices will charge at blazing rates, quadrupling speeds of traditional chargers.

What’s Next For Quick Charge Technology
Qualcomm is continuing to develop newer generations of Quick Charge. Recently, Quick Charge 5.0 was released, though it’s rarely used on consumer devices yet. This, of course, will change in the coming years. Quick Charge 5.0 can charge devices to 50% in about five minutes, support voltages up to 25V and draw 100+ Watts of power during the charging process. And of course, Quick Charge 5.0 battery chargers will work with all Quick Charge 3.0-compatible devices.
