  • Technology and Politics

John F. Kennedy VS Richard Nixon in the 1960 campaign season was aired on television and was marked as one of the leading technological moments in political history. Technology has shaped and is continuing to mold politics in ways that is changing the course of a lot of future campaigns.

When George W. Bush was our president in 2004, the internet was around but nothing really made much of an impact - YouTube didn't exist yet, and most of social media platforms we are familiar with today weren't around either. The one platform that speaks loudly is Twitter as we see Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump communicating via Tweets to each other, to the world. Even President Obama is familiar with Twitter as we can see him reading hilarious 'Mean Tweets' on The Jimmy Kimmel Show -

Yes. Technology has taken over the political world. If you think about it without technology, we would've never heard about the scandal about how Donald Trump talks about women, OR without email, Hillary Clinton's stress level would be a tad lower?

Social media allows everyone to express their opinions about the election whether they're comments to memes to videos!

In my honest opinion, I think technology has allowed us to be more informed about what is going on in today's world and the election. Especially when we are all so busy and in a hurry to live our lives, thank god for our smartphones and social media apps right? Haha. But in all seriousness, technology and social media has allowed us to bring up racial, sexist, immigration issues and etc. It gives us a voice to speak out about even the most sensitive topics.

What do you think about how technology has influenced the political world?

  • Walk The Halloween Runway

Yay! Happy October! I love October because it means that the weather is starting to cool down, everyone is slowly embracing the upcoming holiday seasons, pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING, and Halloween costumes!

Every year I love to research and look up how creative and clever people can get with their costumes - even for their pets! Some are straight up hilarious and others are VERY creative - either way, they're all enjoyable and I would love to share some tech-related Halloween costumes I've found on the good old' internet this morning!

    1. Pokemon!

If you haven't been living under a rock this year, you will know that Pokemon has taken over the galaxy. With Nintendo's Pokemon Go app installed in almost every smartphone in the world, people are reconnecting with their old or current childhood moments - with costumes!

  • The Power Of NBA Social Media

Who watched last night's epic battle between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors?! What a game, right?

    CAVSWARRIORS

Thousands of fans, non-Cleveland/Golden State fans, and even non-sports fans tuned in to watch Game 7. Whether you were at home watching on your big-screen TV or at a sports bar with your friends it's pretty hard to not catch the game. Even 5 years ago, we didn't have easy access to sports like we do today. 10 years ago, social media platforms were just making its debut (Remember MySpace?) but today social media has literally taken over the world. With the help of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, sport apps, etc - we are automatically updated with every play, home run, touchdown, highlight.

However, sometimes social media can be used for good and the bad...

Let's start with the bad - social media isn't just a tool to update us on game highlights, but it can also inform us of what is going on outside of the sports world. A recent story that went viral was a bitter tweet that Golden State Warrior's Stephen Curry's wife, Ayesha Curry, sent out before quickly deleting it soon after. The Warriors lost a game, and there were of course a lot of emotions running through and we all say things without thinking when we are highly emotional, and that's what happened when Ayesha Curry tweeted that the games were rigged.

Twitter made out to make her look whiny and into a sore loser. After Cleveland's victory last night, Ayesha Curry tweeted out a positive and encouraging tweet celebrating the Warriors' hard work and amazing season they had, but still many Twitter users were mocking her and even claiming that her tweet ruined the great regular season the Warriors had :(

Let's move on to the good! One of the biggest highlights of sports in 2016 was Kobe Bryant's final game.

Celebrating his 20 year career, not only did Bryant play an excellent game where he scored 60 incredible points, but 1.13 billion impressions all over social media were posted through popular brands, teams, celebrities, and fans that wanted to honor Kobe. The hashtag #MambaDay generated globally. Even if you didn't watch the game, even if you have absolutely no interest in basketball, even if you have no idea who Kobe Bryant is (what?) - on April 13, social media platforms made sure he was the most important human being on earth.

Last night, social media reaction focused mainly on LeBron James carrying the team with an incredible comeback to win the title. Celebrities including Dwayne Wade, Rihanna, Kobe Bryant, Mark Cuban and even President Barack Obama himself congratulated LeBron and Co. for their achievements and the end of their title drought. Twitter went crazy throughout the entire game and tweeting about every single significant earth-shattering block, shot, foul that happened. How can you not know what's going on?!

Ultimately I think social media has allowed us to feel like we are a part of the team. I follow every Dodgers and 49ers account on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and I just love being updated about the latest news and I especially enjoy the behind-the-scenes moments they bring to us fans!

I just want to conclude saying that social media has become a powerful tool to connect, inform, find, engage with, and develop a close bond and community with sports fans.

    - Aluratek out.

  • Politics & Technology

40 years ago today, Rick Monday saves the American flag. In 1976, the Chicago Cubs played a normal baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Dodger Stadium. Bottom of the fourth inning, out of nowhere, a man and his 11-year old son raced towards outfield, kneeled on the grass, spread out an American flag and was ready to ignite it on fire in front of the entire stadium. In the meantime, Cubs center fielder Rick Monday, former U.S. Marine, saw the situation unraveling and bolted towards the 2 protesters. As he put his glove into his left hand, Rick Monday approached the flag and snatched it up with his other hand and continued to run toward the Dodger's dugout. In that moment, the entire stadium united not as baseball fans, but as proud Americans as they cheered and thanked Rick Monday for his heroic act making it the best non-baseball play ever. Rick Monday saved the American flag that day and for that Rick Monday's heroic act became one of the most memorable events in the sport's history, making a unification between patriotism and America's pastime.

If something like this happened today, imagine watching that clip being replayed over and over and over again on ESPN Sportscenter, FOX, CNN, etc. It's definitely a great thing! A patriotic act happened at Dodger Stadium 40 years ago and went "viral" without the use of internet, smartphones, social media. So again, imagine how much more "viral" it be if it happened today!

The influence of technology on sports, politics, celeb plays a huge role today. The staggering distribution numbers through platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, podcasts, indicate that technology has pretty much consumed our daily lives. As we all should know, the elections are among us and technology could be a ultimate deciding factor in the 2016 Presidential elections. Look how many clips of Republican/Democratic debates, rallies, speeches have already gone viral in 2016 alone! Have you scrolled through Donald Trump's Twitter page?! Candidates are influencing Americans with a simple tweet. Technology and social media have taken over this country, this world.

Just a random thought I had this morning.

  • The Oscars And The Internet

What a night! The 88th Academy Awards was an interesting one, for sure. The biggest A-List movie stars were all there hoping for a chance to win an award for their hard work. Lady Gaga gave a powerful performance and Chris Rock hosted the award show despite all the Oscars drama happening. However, a few unexpected wins and several awkward jokes later - the moment EVERYONE and their moms were waiting for was about to happen. As Julianna Moore read off the nominees for Best Actor, we all know the entire world was watching hoping and praying that our beloved Leonardo Dicaprio would win his first Oscar. And he did. I'm not surprised as he is one of the most talented actors of our time that has delivered some of the best performances to the big screen. Imagine if he didn't...the internet would've gone crazy. Probably a riot? Leo has been nominated for an Academy Award countless times but was never given a chance to go up on that glorious stage and give his acceptance speech.

Social media and the internet EXPLODED. Not only did he win an Oscar but he won the most tweeted moment in Oscar history, beating Ellen DeGeneres's Oscar selfie couple years back. About 255,000 tweets a minute and after Leo's Oscar win? About 440,000 PER MINUTE. Whoo! The Oscars was really about Leonardo Dicaprio thanks to the internet and its awesome trending memes.

  • 5 New Year's Tech Resolutions

Every year we write a list of things we want to accomplish for the next year to come. This may involve eating healthier, losing weight, quit smoking and the list goes on and on. A resolution's purpose is to better yourself especially with habits that aren't quite so good for you. As the years go by, technology is getting more advanced and so easy to access with the touch of a smartphone or tablet. How often are our eyes glued to the screen? How often do we spend time outside of the digital world and appreciate and take in all the great things life has to offer other than technology?

If you know that you are a addicted to your gadgets here are 5 solutions you can jot down for your New Year's resolution!

    1. Organize your bookmark links on your web browsers!

This may seem tedious, but believe me it helps! Time is everything so if you can save some at all, organizing your bookmarks into folders and naming them accordingly will make your searches a lot faster instead of tirelessly scrolling through all of them.

    2. Social media addiction?

Addicted to Twitter? Find most of your time scrolling through your Instagram page? What a big time waster if that's all you do! Rearrange your most used social media apps from your home screen to the second page of your phone. The little extra effort to get to the 2nd page makes a huge difference.

    3. Push the notifications away!

The purpose of push notifications is to interrupt you. I hate them so much! Unless you get in trouble from your spouse, family members, friends or even getting terminated at work for missing the notifications, I encourage you to turn all of them off. Oh and also since we're already on the topic, if you're busy at work, school or just preoccupied with other things and do not want to be bothered with phone calls or text messages, there is a Do Not Disturb tab on the iPhone that holds off all calls and text messages when you activate it.

    4. Get a real alarm clock!

Stay away from the alarm clock system on your smartphone or tablet. Waking up in the morning is already hard enough so would you want to add more stress being woken up with work emails and other internet nuisances? Get an alarm clock. Remember those? They're not that expensive and you can even find ones with creative and funny features such as the Defuse-A-Bomb alarm clock.

Here at Aluratek we also offer a nifty WiFi Internet Radio alarm clock that we know you will love!

    WiFi Internet Radio

    5. Disconnect before bedtime

Sleep does a body good and is VERY important so turn off devices and wind down peacefully without the disturbance and distraction of your smartphone or tablet. This one is probably the most difficult as I like to fall asleep to a movie or TV show on Netflix, but let's be honest...it's the reason why I don't get enough sleep!

I encourage and challenge everyone including myself to add at least one of these tech resolutions to your list this year! Good luck and happy new year!

  • The World Cup Is Taking Over the Social Media World!

Are you watching the 2014 World Cup? If history is any indication, we know that it will be one of the biggest sporting events of the year. The competition is fierce not only on the field, but in the social media universe and big companies. Soccer fans can cheer for their country (Go USA!) or respective teams, and the World Cup will also be the provider for companies to advertise, advertise, and did I mention advertise?

This year’s World Cup has surpassed the Super Bowl and Olympics in popularity. That is quite impressive! Soccer might not be as popular in the U.S. compared to our American football or basketball, but everywhere else, soccer is IMPORTANT. The World Cup has officially kicked off last Thursday, and it has already blown up the social media world. Social media wasn’t that big 4 years ago in World Cup South Africa compared to what it is today. This year’s World Cup has been mentioned on social sites such as Facebook and Twitter with millions of viral video views, and hash tags of popular players! It’s hard to envision a time when the competition wasn’t bombarded with Tweets and shameless selfies! Ha!

As for big name brands, Nike, Coca Cola and Adidas have created huge campaigns for the World Cup that includes series of videos and short movies. According to Offerpop, over 5 billion dollars will be spent on sponsorships and commercials.

Check out this really cool infographic that shows the marketing statistics for the 2014 Brazil World Cup!

Fans and players of soccer are passionate about this sport, and I personally think it’s exhilarating that they are able to share their excitement with the entire world through social media!
