  • The World Cup Is Taking Over the Social Media World!

Are you watching the 2014 World Cup? If history is any indication, we know that it will be one of the biggest sporting events of the year. The competition is fierce not only on the field, but in the social media universe and big companies. Soccer fans can cheer for their country (Go USA!) or respective teams, and the World Cup will also be the provider for companies to advertise, advertise, and did I mention advertise?

This year’s World Cup has surpassed the Super Bowl and Olympics in popularity. That is quite impressive! Soccer might not be as popular in the U.S. compared to our American football or basketball, but everywhere else, soccer is IMPORTANT. The World Cup has officially kicked off last Thursday, and it has already blown up the social media world. Social media wasn’t that big 4 years ago in World Cup South Africa compared to what it is today. This year’s World Cup has been mentioned on social sites such as Facebook and Twitter with millions of viral video views, and hash tags of popular players! It’s hard to envision a time when the competition wasn’t bombarded with Tweets and shameless selfies! Ha!

As for big name brands, Nike, Coca Cola and Adidas have created huge campaigns for the World Cup that includes series of videos and short movies. According to Offerpop, over 5 billion dollars will be spent on sponsorships and commercials.

Check out this really cool infographic that shows the marketing statistics for the 2014 Brazil World Cup!

Fans and players of soccer are passionate about this sport, and I personally think it’s exhilarating that they are able to share their excitement with the entire world through social media!

  • What Dads Really Want

T-minus 4 days until Father's Day! Let's not forget about all the hardworking fathers out there! Father’s Day provides children and mothers a chance to express love and respect for their fathers, but sadly Father’s Day does not get the attention it deserves compared to other holidays (Ex: Mother’s Day)! According to National Retail Federation, Father's Day is the “smallest of the gift giving holiday.” Most people will gift their dads with a greeting card and apparel such as neckties and sweaters. Not that those aren't great gifts, but have we ever asked ourselves what our fathers REALLY want for Father’s Day?

Although Father’s Day is fast approaching and probably too late to order a gift online to arrive by Sunday, it’s the thought that counts right? So if you still haven’t purchased a gift for your pops or hubs, swing on over to Aluratek’s website and browse through all of our products. We carry everything from Smartphone and Tablet accessories to Bluetooth audio accessories! We guarantee that you will find something awesome to gift your father or husband (what man doesn't love tech gadgets?!), and even though it might arrive a day or two after Father’s Day, he’ll easily get over it after he sees the thoughtful gift!

But let's be real...we all know what father's REALLY want, but would never dare to say it out loud! Watch the video to find out!

If you haven't purchased a present yet, what are you planning to gift your dad for Father's Day? Share your comments with us by visiting our Facebook page or leaving a comment below!

  • 70 Years Of Perspective

Having problems posting your photos to Instagram or Facebook from your smartphone? Can be pretty frustrating right? Those error messages seem to come at the worst time right when you need to let the whole world know what you're eating for dinner or when you need to upload the perfect selfie. Ugghhh, sigh, this is horrible!

How about the problems of an American photographer in 1944? You could be Robert Capa, carrying three cameras and dropped 100 yards from the beach assigned to cover the Allied invasion of Normandy for LIFE magazine. Talk about putting things in perspective! This Friday will mark the 70th anniversary of one of the most infamous days in history. I am talking about D-DAY (day of days), the largest seaborne invasion (Operation Overlord) in history conducted by the Allies during WWII. This invasion changed the course of the war which ultimately led to the Allied victory in Europe...which led to your inconsequential problems uploading selfie's from your smartphone.

Watch the video that shows how the famed photojournalist's negatives were almost lost, narrated by LIFE editor, John G. Morris.

Read the article published by Time, titled: Robert Capa’s Iconic D-Day Photo of a Soldier in the Surf for more of the story that accompanies this video. Find out who that man in Capa's infamous picture was. Keep scrolling as there are many great articles about the invasion. Find out more by visiting the National D-Day Memorial website.
